Rebel Girls: 100 Real-Life Tales of Black Girl Magic

It’s no secret we’re big fans of the Rebel Girls brand and its mission to helping raise an inspired and confident global generation of girls. Check out their latest book Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 Real-Life Tales of Black Girl Magic.

Edited by award-winning journalist Lilly Workneh of Rebel Girls and #BlackGirlMagic originator CaShawn Thompson, the book celebrates the stories of Black women and girls across the globe. The women featured in the book represent over 30 countries and range from athlete Naomi Osaka and poet Amanda Gorman to singer Rosetta Tharpe and journalist Ida B. Wells.

Black Girl Magic

“Rebel Girls is proud to bring the Black Girl Magic hashtag to life through authentic storytelling of inspiring innovators, creators, leaders, and champions,” said Workneh. “100 Real-Life Tales of Black Girl Magic is designed to acknowledge, applaud and amplify the incredible stories of Black women and girls from the past and present; and to celebrate Black Girl Magic around the world. Because if she can see it, she can be it.”

Black women created 100 Real-Life Tales of Black Girl Magic from cover to cover. Written by four Black women and illustrated by 60 Black women and non-binary artists, the book also provides readers with interactive bonus activities and a space to write and illustrate their own stories.

“The #BlackGirlMagic hashtag has been used all over the world, and I saw firsthand the inspiration and direct impact it has had on Black women everywhere,” said Thompson. “I’m so proud that Rebel Girls has used their platform to create a tangible representation of what the original Black Girl Magic hashtag means to me and what it can inspire for Black girls everywhere.”
