I am always on the lookout for unique gifts and the opportunity to support people/companies that sync with making the world better. This post contains affiliate links.
THE THANK-YOU PROJECT book
Gratitude is a buzzword right now (and rightly so). The Thank-You Project: Cultivating Happiness One Letter of Gratitude at a Time tells the story of the year writer/podcaster Nancy Davis Kho wrote thank-you letters to 50 people, places, and pastimes that had shaped her, inspired her, and helped her become the person she was.
Using her own story as a springboard and incorporating facets from the emerging science of happiness to understand why her gratitude letters worked so well, Davis Kho gives practical and reassuring guidance to readers who want to start their own Thank-You Project. I received a copy of the book and can confirm it will make you laugh, reflect, and itch to start writing your own letters to the formative people in your life. Consider gifting it to someone special, with a personal thank-you letter to them attached.
Princess Awesome Clothing
I always feel a little teary when one of my girls outgrows her Princess Awesome clothing. Tossing aside traditional stereotypes of what girls should wear, Princess Awesome champions the idea that all kids deserve to be seen for their true selves and honored for their own unique set of interests. Think dresses, shirts, and pants covered in dragons, rockets, fossils, ninjas, circuits, ocean explorers, and more. Sizes range from babes all the way up to age 12. The company also recently launched a new brand Boy Wonder. Unsure of what to get? You can buy gift certificates too.
Paper Culture Holiday Cards
A couple of years ago I was ready to hang it up on Holiday cards. I love the sentiment, but was concerned about waste. Then I came across Paper Culture. Their products (including Eco Holiday Cards) are made from post-consumer recycled paper, which means no new trees were cut down to produce products. Even better, with every order the company plants a tree. In addition to Holiday cards, Paper Culture also creates wedding invitations, Valentine’s Day cards, party invitations and much more.
KAZOO Magazine Subscription
KAZOO has been coming to our household for over two years. Printed quarterly, the magazine is aimed at girls ages five to 12. All stories are either developed or inspired by top female artists, explorers, scientists, chefs, athletes, activists, writers and others. Regular features include: science experiments; comics; art projects; recipes; interviews with inspiring women from Olympic athletes to astronauts; and fun activities, like secret codes, jokes, mazes, search-and-finds and more. A KAZOO subscription will lead to smiles all year round.
Little Adventures Costumes
My girls love their costumes from Little Adventures…I love that the items can go in the washing machine. Whether your girl plans to attend an Ice Queen Coronation with Elsa, fly around the house in a dragon cloak, or wear a Parisian dress to a fancy tea party, this company has you covered. Did I mention the costumes won’t glitter bomb closets?
National Museum of Women in the Arts Online Shop
You don’t have to travel to Washington D.C. to support the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA). The museum advocates for a better representation of women artists and serves as a vital center for thought leadership, community engagement and social change. It also brings to light important women artists of the past while programming great women artists working today. Their online gift shop offers the popular shirt #5WomenArtists, books/toys for kids, and home accents. You can also make a donation to honor someone instead of purchasing a physical gift or give the gift of a museum membership (a great idea for any museum wherever you live).
Wishing you dear reader a wonderful holiday season.
